The best thing about Halloween has got to be handing out treats to all the little kiddies in their costumes. Watching lil ones lug around a giant bag of candy is too cute! Makes me feel nostalgic, who doesn’t have great memories of running around the neighbourhood feasting on free candy?

My mother’s birthday is on Halloween and because of this, she always celebrated Halloween in a big way. I have fond memories of her in a witches costume handing out candy and acting as if the kids smiles were the birthday gift she could get.

I love seeing the kids dressed up in their costumes. They wear them for weeks prior to Halloween and enjoy running around the house in their chosen disguises.

I am already a fan of KITC on facebook and have now become a fan of Inspired Photography as well. I love Proulx Farm and it’s a great locale for photo shoot!

My favourite thing about Halloween is how you can let your imagination soar. You can choose be whomever you would like to be, from an enchanted princess to a beastly monster. There is nothing like the mix of excitement, crunchy leaves underfoot, eerie cackles, crisp fall air, and glowing pumpkins. Halloween is by far my favourite holiday of the year!

  11. Julie

What don’t I love about Halloween?!? I love the colours, the use of imagination, the excitement in anticipation of the event, the decorations and, of course, the food!

My favorite part of Halloween this ear has been imagining what my 10 month old baby girl will be dressed up as. We’ve been tossing around ideas since January 🙂

  14. Soha Kneen

My favourite part of Halloween is decorating the front door and garden with my son! We love to make things super spooky with a graveyard in our front yard, carving the pumpkin and even having a ghost on the porch! It’s my favourite time of year! My son and I also have great fun planning our costumes! He wants to be Harry Potter this year – I’m still undecided. 🙂

  15. mik

I prefer tricks rather than the treats!

  16. oh, by far my favourite thing about Hallowe’en is going to Saunders Farm! I was married there, and now every year we go back with the kids and go through with the kids. They aren’t old enough for the scary stuff yet, but one day they will be and I’ll have to explain how we chose Saunders haunted farm as the place to celebrate our marriage!

  17. One son’s birthdAy is Halloween week, so planning a costume party Is fun.

And I love mini Caramilk bars…

  18. Kerry

My favorite part of Halloween is decorating the house and preparing candy loot bags (to give out) – everyone pitches in. Even last year when my oldest was just a year old, she was there “helping” me with the preparation.
This year, we look forward to having the whole family (mom, dad and kiddies) dress up and go trick-or-treating.

  19. Julia

CANDY!! And now, getting to dress my son up!

  20. Julia

Just joined the Kids in the Capital FB page – so I also love giving candy out to the cute little trick or treaters that come around. (Although we get NONE at our house now…very sad!)

  21. Julia

Just joined the Inspired Photography FB page…So really, what’s not to like about Hallowe’en?!!?

  22. Charlene

We ADORE Halloween! Decorating has already begun( it’s only September but why wait??) Having kids really makes it magical.

  23. Alison

I love the excitement of dressing up and visiting the neighbours. As well as trying to figure out who’s who under the costumes!

  24. Carey

My favourite thing about Halloween is getting to hand out loot to all the kids who come to our door. I love seeing all the cuties in their costumes and admiring all the creativity. And, of course, seeing my own little girls all dressed up is great too!

  25. Chantal Burns

The best day of the whole year!
As an adult, this is the one day you have permission to dress up and be funny! Be anything you want!
As a parent, this is the day to watch your children’s imagination soar! Even if when they are little, you can make it so much fun with house decorations and crafts.
Then,…the actual day is here, and you have a neighbourhood full of kids coming by to grab your candy and show off their costumes.
    Best day ever!~

I love seeing the kids in their costume on Halloween, going trick or treating with my son, and enjoying quality time with family.

I have 2 boys (7mths and 2yrs) and we even enjoy the time leading up to Halloween. Coordinating our costumes, being silly and trying on different ones, and sharing laughs together 🙂
    – Being the Penguin family this year, and as my son says “Quack, Quack!”

  27. Alison

I love the candy, walking around looking at the houses where people go all out with decorating, and most of all the littlest kids in costumes…those who haven’t even learned to say trick or treat yet…

I have become a facebook fan of Kids in the Capital and inspired photography

  31. I love seeing all the little ones come to the door in their costumes. Wee ones at Halloween are too adorable!

  32. Kimberly

I confess. It’s all about the candy. Mini bars, rockets, caramels, tiny bags of M&Ms. Yum

  33. Getting the pictures of my kids in costume of course! 🙂

  34. Fenouille

Making my late grand-mother’s no crust pumpkin pie recipe.

  35. Feebs

Walking around at dark is always the best part, everyone is in such a festive and friendly mood. It is fun to see everyone out and about, enjoying all the decorations and costumes.

  36. Gil

My favourite thing? There’s too many!

Probably the best is our annual outing to local farms (Proulx, Saunders) to enjoy the colours, the treats, the tricks(!) and the fun. Years ago, when I met my husband, he had two young children from a previous marriage. And I have a friend who is a single mom of a daughter the same age as hubby’s kids. All of us together, we started going to local spots with them to celebrate Halloween (wagon rides, haunted barns, etc.) and of course, having fun watching them get ready for trick-or-treat on that special night! It’s always a joy to watch their delight!

After years of infertility issues, hubby and I have our own little miracle. She’s just turned one year old. Right now, I look forward to sharing our Halloween tradition with her, and to the moments I’ll have in the future, sharing in her preparations for her night out collecting candy and goodies!

Seeing holidays through children’s eyes is always the best. Something I’ve waited YEARS to be able to do! Happy Halloween everyone!

(And thanks for the info re: the two FB groups!)

I am a sucker for Hallowe’en. Sure I love the mystery of the dressing up, the streets decked with spiders and flickering candles, wandering the neighbourhood at night, the crisp fall weather and all the treats. But the real reason that it is my favourite holiday is because it is one of the last true community rituals. We open our doors to friends in disguise and strangers. We give sweets away randomly and anonymously – not for the thanks but to contribute to the festival. Whether people decorate their house, done a witch’s hat or hand out some candy – it is irresistible to get into the community spirit.

One of the great benefits of having kids is getting the opportunity to experience the magic thrill of Hallowe’en again through the eyes of my children – the wondrous eyes of childhood. This Hallowee’en is the most exciting as our son will finally be old enough to enjoy dressing up and we are expecting number two anyday now. I can’t wait!

  45. neeroc

This will be V’s first year for Halloween, so being able to pass down my excitement for the occasion will be my favorite thing. I’m already a huge fan, and I’ve been counting down the days until ‘normal’ people say it’s alright to start decorating (that would be today btw! yay!)

Oh, and the IP one too.

  48. I asked my little man what he loves about Halloween he said – the candy of course!

  49. Making up elaborate costumes for the Dude. We don’t celebrate much but we go all out for Hallowe’en. In fact, we’re shaving his head for this year’s costume as The Last Airbender 😉

  50. Sherrie

My favourite thing about Halloween is the family time spent together picking out costumes, pumpkin carving, baking and getting the house ready for one of our favourite time of year!

My favorite thing about Halloween is dressing up in costumes! This year is the first year my little one will fit into a costume as she was 2 weeks old last year! She has an elaborate flower costume, as well as a bunny and puppy just to make sure she’s got halloween covered!
    Can’t wait!!

  56. Best part of fall? Undoubtedly the smell of the candles burning the underside of the jack-o-lantern lids on Halloween night. AMAZING!
